1982 DMC DELOREAN

STAINLESS STEEL BODY

Production Years: 1981 -1982
Country: Great Britain
Number Produced: Approximately 9,000

Engineered by John DeLorean

Built in Northern Ireland (UK Territory), the Delorean’s body is made of stainless steel, the same material we’ve used to build Polypack packaging machines for decades. That is one of the reasons we included an automobile, which is not yet vintage, into our collection. Much innovation was promised and some was delivered like the X-frame backbone chassis designed by Colin Chapman (from Lotus). The strength, durability and environmental compatibility of the Giugiaro designed body that didn’t require a huge painting operation has withstood the test of time. Time quickly ran out for John DeLorean as his grand ideas collided with economic and political reality bringing it all to a tragic conclusion.
