The 1953 Grégoire Coupe is a rare and exquisite example of French automotive craftsmanship, designed by the renowned engineer Jean Albert Grégoire. Produced between 1950 and 1953, this particular model was one of the standout exhibits at the 1953 New York Auto Show, capturing the attention of car enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
Very few Hotchkiss-Grégoire cars were ever exported to the United States, and even fewer were coupes. This exact car was exhibited at the New York Show in 1953 and subsequently sold to Ed Cole, who was the Chief Engineer of Chevrolet at the time. An interesting detail of this vehicle is the steering wheel, which features a logo of an Impala—an emblem and name that would later become iconic on Chevrolet vehicles.
The Grégoire Coupe boasts a sleek and stylish design, reflecting the elegance and innovation of its era. Underneath its refined exterior lies advanced engineering, characteristic of Grégoire's work. The car has been completely restored to its original condition, preserving its historical and aesthetic value.
Of the very few Hotchkiss-Grégoires imported into the United States, our collection proudly contains three of them, with this coupe being a centerpiece. The 1953 Grégoire Coupe is not only a piece of automotive history but also an enduring example of French automotive design.
