The Tampa Bay Automobile Museum is excited to offer a rare, hands-on learning experience for rotary enthusiasts: a full-day Rotary Engine Restoration Workshop, taking place March 14 and March 15, 2026, in conjunction with the museum’s new exhibit, The Wankel Rotary Engine: Innovation That Never Went Mainstream.

These exclusive workshops provide a full day of practical instruction, in-depth demonstrations, and real-world restoration techniques designed to preserve the future of rotary-powered vehicles.

A Mission to Keep Rotary Cars Alive

In 2023, Mazda doubled the price of new factory rotary engines. Many owners suddenly worried that their cherished RX-7s, RX-8s, and other rotary classics might become too expensive to maintain. At the same time, qualified rotary builders became harder to find.

Matthew Orth, longtime rotary tuner and educator saw a danger to the future of rotary culture; a shrinking pool of knowledge and a growing need for hands-on skill. Instead of letting these engines fade away, he decided to take action:
